  Netherlands Memorial Attendance 2009/2010

  good news!.

  the dutch kingdom ministry shows the following statement:.

  this year (2010) 43.372 persons attended the memorial, 100 persons took of the symbols.. the 2009 attendance figure was 51.578.. this means that 8.206 went missing in one single year, a plunge of 16%.. i get the impression that the partakes figure is going up as they now avoid the term "annointed".. .

  What to make of this admission?

  my husband told me that he realizes the wt uses human reasoning, has made lots of mistakes, covers things up, and has published some pretty crazy and wrong ideas...yet he still believes it because "it is the most right" to him.. is this common for jws?

  i'm not understanding.

  Another thread to my story

  Have your JW Relatives Explained about Generation/Overlap Change to You ?

  after reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .

  i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.

  so please feel free to post your experiences.

  EGGNOD: Malachi 3: 6 States "I am Jehovah, I have not changed" Jesus said " It does not belong to you to get knowldge of the times and seasons" at Acts 1:7. Taking Malachi as an absolute truth, Jesus rightly discouraged his followers from being precoccupied with dates, times, seasons, etc as they related to his coming or events associated with the last days. However, contrary to the scriptural injunction at Acts 1:7 the WTBS have made Matt 24:34 a central core belief (hinge point for the 1914 start of the last days) taking what Jesus said did not belong to them and repeatedly changed it from one understanding to the next.

  The flip-flopping on Matt 24:34 by the WTBS sadly serves to undermine a belief in a God that does, in fact change, somewhat whimsically when it comes to evidently not knowing whether the generation he asked his son to speak about at Matt 24:34 are "sons" or "wicked" - quite a swing. The effect is that when we need to explicitly trust God, we can't because he can't be trusted on what has been recorded in scrripture. It also shows immense disrespect for Jesus, who told us not to be concerned. The Living Bible puts it even more pointedly that the NWT: " "The Father sets those dates...and it is not for you to know". Jesus' prophecy at Matt 24:34 came true when the generation he spoke to saw the destruction of Jerusalem approx 37 years later. He never misled his followers with clever semantics or etimology - it was just not his nature.

  One thing is true, the WTBS in their disobedience of God and Jesus fullfil the absolute truth at Deuteronomy 13:1-3, paraphrased, "if it does not come true, don't listen to them"

  As a Witness - What did you Notice in How Elders Got Appointed ?

  i found it amazing being raised in the witnesses to see exactly who got appointed sometimes as an elder.

  it seemed that the criteria in my opinion had more to do with getting 10 hours a month in field service, answering at meetings, carrying microphones as a ministerial servant, or handling the magazine or literature counter !

  in doing these " functions " and attending meetings on a regular basis - a man was thought to be considered " spiritually strong " and qualify to be an elder and serve on judicial committees judging people's personal problems.

  Suck Up + Green Handshake (CO and DO to get the mention at the elder meeting) 1st and foremost. Nice wife and kids who comment, in TMS, help old sisters, etc are bonus points. Keeping your hours under the nat average is a good way to stay out of their radar.

  Quality of Talks Deteriorating?

  years ago i know talks to be accurate, authoritative, corroborative and encouraging.. however, now that watchtower has change (including new light) tactics applied so extensively, things seem to be worsening instead of getting better.. the 45 minute talk is frequently discouraging and prone to inaccuracy in non-scriptural facts.

  i hate to see the few means of jw secular education is done by careless misinformation.

  it mostly attacks the world and sometimes reflects the overzealous opinions of the speaker; for example, demonizing entertainment and the internet.

  Public Talk: Starts on the hour with song + prayer, no more than 5 minutes. The talk should start at around **:05 and end at **:35. Chariman introduces the WT at **:36. Opening WT Song + WT + Closing WT song + prayer = 1hr. All should have shut their big yappers by 1:36 minutes later after the start of the meeting. This rarely happened while I was around, not sure what happens now....

  Watchtower says: Anointed DO NOT have MORE Bible Understanding

  the anointed do not have more bible understanding than the great crowd!.

  the watchtower, june 15th, 1996, page 31:.

  the other sheep today perform the same preaching work as the remnant, under the same trying conditions, and manifest the same faithfulness and integrity.
